God's Preparation Process

Pastor: Jeff Bedwell Series: Sent Topic: Prayer Scripture: Acts 1:12–26

God will prepare you for what He has prepared for you!

Cooperating With God’s Preparation Process

  1. Exercise Expectant Faith

And without faith it is impossible to please him, for whoever would draw near to God must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who seek him.” (Hebrews 11:6, ESV)

We too often believe it is possible for others, but not for us.

What are you believing God for right now?

  1. Practice Consistent Obedience (4, 12)

And behold, I am sending the promise of my Father upon you. But stay in the city until you are clothed with power from on high.”” (Luke 24:49, ESV)

Too many Christians spend too much time trying to figure out God’s Concealed will while ignoring God’s Revealed will.

The best preparation for tomorrow’s Opportunity is today’s Obedience.

What has God set before you right now?

  1. Connect To Community (12-14)

God designed us for Communion with Him and Community with other believers.

There is a limit to what God can do in and through your life if you are not vitally connected to The Body.

For as in one body we have many members, and the members do not all have the same function, so we, though many, are one body in Christ, and individually members one of another.” (Romans 12:4–5, ESV)

Who are you doing life with?

  1. Seek God in Prayer (14)
  • Persistent
  • Corporate
  • Dependent

Prayer is both the Thermometer and the Thermostat of the local church.

We need both the Inner Room (Matthew 6:6) and the Upper Room (Acts 1:13-14).

What are your current rhythms of prayer?

  1. Immerse Yourself in Scripture (15-20)
  • The Scripture is Trustworthy (16)
  • The Scripture gives us Perspective and Understanding (17-20)
  • The Scripture is to be Applied through obedience (21-26)

“Nobody ever outgrows Scripture; the Book widens and deepens with our years” Charles H. Spurgeon

How are you immersing yourself in God’s Word?  How are you adjusting your life to the authority and trustworthiness of God’s Word?

  1. Look To God not a particular method or a formula (24-26)

Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.” (Hebrews 12:1–2, ESV)

“We serve an unpredictable God. He is not unreasonable, and He is not inconsistent, but He is unpredictable.” - Chris Tiegreen

God calls us to a Living Relationship not a particular method or formula to follow.

When the Spirit of truth comes, he will guide you into all the truth, for he will not speak on his own authority, but whatever he hears he will speak, and he will declare to you the things that are to come.” (John 16:13, ESV)

“Our intimacy with God—His highest priority for our lives—determines the impact of our lives.”  - Charles Stanley

Is your relationship with God the highest priority of your life?

What is God preparing you for?

How are you cooperating with that preparation?

Making It Personal:

  • Am I genuinely in a living relationship with God through repenting of my sin and placing my faith in Christ alone as the forgiver of my sin and the leader and Lord of my life?
  • What are you believing God for right now?
  • What has God set before you right now?
  • Who are you doing life with?
  • What are your current rhythms of prayer?
  • How are you immersing yourself in God’s Word? How are you adjusting your life to the authority and trustworthiness of God’s Word?
  • Is your relationship with God the highest priority of your life?
  • Who can I share these truths with?
