What Happened To Them (1-4)

Background: Pentecost means ________________

The Jewish Feasts Mentioned in Leviticus 23 are an outline of the work of Christ:

  • _______________ – Pictures Jesus death as the Lamb of God

“The next day he saw Jesus coming toward him, and said, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29, ESV)

  • Feast of _______________ – Pictures the resurrection of Jesus

“But in fact Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. For as by a man came death, by a man has come also the resurrection of the dead. For as in Adam all die, so also in Christ shall all be made alive. But each in his own order: Christ the firstfruits, then at his coming those who belong to Christ.” (1 Corinthians 15:20–23, ESV)

An Important Distinction:
Baptism and Filling

“You, however, are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if in fact the Spirit of God dwells in you. Anyone who does not have the Spirit of Christ does not belong to him.” (Romans 8:9, ESV)

“For in one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—Jews or Greeks, slaves or free—and all were made to drink of one Spirit.” (1 Corinthians 12:13, ESV)

“In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.” (Ephesians 1:13–14, ESV)

There is no command to be baptized with the Spirit, but there is a command to be filled with the Spirit!

“And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,” (Ephesians 5:18, ESV)

“The baptism of the Spirit means that I belong to His body; the fullness of the Spirit means that my body belongs to Him. The baptism is final; the fullness is repeated as we trust God for new power to witness. The baptism involves all other believers; for it makes us one in the body of Christ.” Warren Wiersbe

How To Be Filled With The Holy Spirit

  • By _______________ (Colossians 2:6)
  • By ____________________________
  1. Be sure you are indeed a _______________ of the family of God. (John 1:12–13)
  2. You must sincerely _______________ to be directed and empowered by the Holy Spirit. (Matthew 5:6)
  3. You must be willing to _______________ every area of your life to God. (Romans 12:1–2)
  4. You must deal with any _______________ sin in your life. (Psalm 66:18 & 1 John 1:9)

Making It Personal:

  • Are you genuinely a member of the family of God? Have you personally turned from your sin, trusted in Christ’s provision through the cross and surrendered your life to His rule and reign?
  • Does your life increasingly display the fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-23)?
  • Are you utilizing your gifts to serve God by serving others (1 Corinthians 12:4-31)?
  • Are you bearing witness to the gospel of Jesus Christ through the power of the Holy Spirit (Acts 1:8)?
  • Who can you share these truths with?
