Transformed

Pastor: Jeff Bedwell Series: The Gospel Story Scripture: Acts 9:1–43

The Gospel Story
Transformed
Acts 9

When God begins to move in someone’s life, they are never the same again.

Marks of a Transformed Life

  1. A Transforming Faith (1-9)

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV)

  1. Dependent Prayer (10-12)

praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” (Ephesians 6:18, ESV)

“Prayer is the autograph of the Holy Ghost upon the renewed heart” Charles Spurgeon

  1. Obedient Service (6, 13-19)

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, ESV)

  1. Spirit-Filled Living (17)

And do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit,” (Ephesians 5:18, ESV)

  1. Life Enhancing Community (19, 26-27)

We know that we have passed out of death into life, because we love the brothers. Whoever does not love abides in death.” (1 John 3:14, ESV)

not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.” (Hebrews 10:25, ESV)

But when he who had set me apart before I was born, and who called me by his grace, was pleased to reveal his Son to me, in order that I might preach him among the Gentiles, I did not immediately consult with anyone; nor did I go up to Jerusalem to those who were apostles before me, but I went away into Arabia, and returned again to Damascus. Then after three years I went up to Jerusalem to visit Cephas and remained with him fifteen days.” (Galatians 1:15–18, ESV)

God uses both times of Seclusion and times of Community to shape our lives for His purposes.

  1. Bold Witnessing (20-25, 27-29)

All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:18–20, ESV)

But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you, and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth.”” (Acts 1:8, ESV)

  1. A Willingness to Suffer for Christ’s Kingdom (15-16)

Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.” (1 Peter 4:19, ESV)

Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God, who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,” (2 Timothy 1:8–9, ESV)

Closing Thoughts:

  • No one is too difficult for the Lord to transform.
  • God may want to use you to join Him in His transforming work in the life of another.

Making It Personal:

  • Have you personally turned from your sin, trusted in Christ’s provision through the cross and surrendered your life to His rule and reign?
  • Reflect on the characteristics of a transformed life from above. What areas of growth can you identify?  What are the next steps you can take to more fully cooperate with God in these areas of transformation?
  • Who can you share these truths with?
