A Different Kind of Fruit

Pastor: Jeff Bedwell Series: Transformed by the Gospel Scripture: John 15:1–8, Galatians 5:16–26

Transformed By The Gospel

A Different Kind of Fruit

John 15:1-8 & Galatians 5:16-26

When there is a living connection to Jesus, my life looks different!

A Struggle (16-18)

A Christian is not a person who experiences no bad desires. A Christian is a person who is At War with those desires by the power of the Spirit.

Walking By The Spirit Includes:

  • Direction
  • Empowerment

Not Under the Law’s:

  • Punishment
  • Oppression

A Contrast (19-23)

Works of the flesh

The flesh is convinced of its own Merit

The flesh expresses itself through:

  • Self-reliant Morality
  • Self-assertive Immorality

While these things may be the manifestations of sin, the root of sin is a Separation From God

Fruit of the Spirit

A follower of Christ is depending on Grace Through Faith

Our Fruitfulness Is Maximized:

  • Internally through Christ’s life in us through the Spirit
  • Externally through the sovereign rule of God the Father

An Encouragement (24-26)

Live in light of your New Reality

We know that our old self was crucified with him in order that the body of sin might be brought to nothing, so that we would no longer be enslaved to sin.” (Romans 6:6)

His divine power has granted to us all things that pertain to life and godliness, through the knowledge of him who called us to his own glory and excellence, by which he has granted to us his precious and very great promises, so that through them you may become partakers of the divine nature, having escaped from the corruption that is in the world because of sinful desire.” (2 Peter 1:3–4)

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age,” (Titus 2:11–12)

The same grace that has Forgiven me is now in the process of Changing me!

“Holiness requires continual effort on our part and continual nourishing and strengthening by the Spirit.”  Jerry Bridges

Making It Personal:

  • Have I genuinely experienced the life changing power of the gospel in my life through renouncing my sin and relying totally on the finished work of Jesus Christ?
  • How will I remind myself of my new identity in Christ?
  • What will it look like for me to “keep in step with” the Spirit this week?
  • Who can I share these truths with?
