A Fresh Look At A Familiar Story
A Fresh Look At His Birth
Luke 2:1-12

Jesus may not have been who you have pictured Him to be!

For he grew up before him like a young plant, and like a root out of dry ground; he had no form or majesty that we should look at him, and no beauty that we should desire him.” (Isaiah 53:2, ESV)

A Fresh Look At His Birth

  1. Its Timing
  1. Ancient Prophecies
  1. The Circumstances

What Jesus’ Birth Tells Us About God

  1. God Humbled Himself

who, though he was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied himself, by taking the form of a servant, being born in the likeness of men. And being found in human form, he humbled himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.” (Philippians 2:6–8, ESV)

And he arose and came to his father. But while he was still a long way off, his father saw him and felt compassion, and ran and embraced him and kissed him.” (Luke 15:20, ESV)

  1. God is Approachable

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” (Matthew 11:28, ESV)

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you.” (James 4:8, ESV)

  1. God has a heart for the Outcast And Broken

And when the Pharisees saw this, they said to his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?” But when he heard it, he said, “Those who are well have no need of a physician, but those who are sick. Go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, and not sacrifice.’ For I came not to call the righteous, but sinners.”” (Matthew 9:11–13, ESV)

a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice.” (Isaiah 42:3, ESV)

  1. God’s Love is a Sacrificial Love

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16, ESV)

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8, ESV)

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:9–10, ESV)

“The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand; repent and believe in the gospel.” (Mark 1:15, ESV)

testifying both to Jews and to Greeks of repentance toward God and of faith in our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Acts 20:21, ESV)
