Matthew 25:1-13

Preparation is essential in every area of life

Understanding This Parable

Background: Wedding customs of the day:

Three ways the young women were alike:

1. They were all invited to the celebration

2. They all desired to be a part of the celebration

3. They all grew drowsy and fell asleep

One major difference:

Five were ready; five were unprepared

Their preparation revealed itself in a crisis

Their different preparations resulted in different outcomes

Applying This Parable

1. Lost opportunities cannot be regained

2. Some things cannot be borrowed; they must be your own

3. Jesus will return without warning

4. The moment of examination cannot be the moment of preparation

5. Uncertainty about the time of Christ’s return is no excuse for neglect of preparation
