Stories With A Purpose
Are You Ready?
Matthew 25:1-13
Preparation is essential in every area of life
Understanding This Parable
Background: Wedding customs of the day:
Three ways the young women were alike:
- They were all invited to the celebration
- They all desired to be a part of the celebration
- They all grew drowsy and fell asleep
One major difference:
Five were ready; five were unprepared
Their preparation revealed itself in a crisis
Their different preparations resulted in different outcomes
Applying This Parable
- Lost opportunities cannot be regained
- Some things cannot be borrowed; they must be your own
- Jesus will return without warning
- The moment of examination cannot be the moment of preparation
- Uncertainty about the time of Christ’s return is no excuse for neglect of preparation
Are you ready?
Are you living a life of preparation?
“The best way to prepare for the coming of Christ is never to forget the presence of Christ.” William Barclay
Heavenly Father, I pray that this day I may live in your Presence and Please you more and more.
Making It Personal:
- Are you ready for the return of Christ? Are you genuinely a child of God through responding to His grace through repentance and faith?
- What adjustments in your thinking, attitude or actions may need to take place in light of this parable?
- How can you increasingly live with a sense of God’s presence and with an increasing desire to please Him in all things?
- Who can you share these truths with?
