I Am Needed

Pastor: Jeff Bedwell Series: It's Your Serve Topic: serve Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9–12

Series: It’s Your Serve
Message: I Am Needed
Scripture: 1 Peter 2:9-12

Who are you?  What are you doing here?

AS A PART OF GOD'S FAMILY...

  1. 1. I Am Accepted "chosen race"

For my father and my mother have forsaken me, but the Lord will take me in.” (Psalm 27:10, ESV)

  1. I Am Valued "a holy nation, a people for his own possession"

What Determines Value?

  • What somebody is willing to Pay for something
  • Who has owned it in the past

Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body.” (1 Corinthians 6:19–20, ESV)

  1. I Am Needed "a royal  priesthood”

As A Believer

  • I have Direct Access to God
  • I represent God before People
  • I am a Minister

Every Follower of Christ Is…

  • Created for ministry

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10, ESV)

  • Saved for ministry

who saved us and called us to a holy calling, not because of our works but because of his own purpose and grace, which he gave us in Christ Jesus before the ages began,” (2 Timothy 1:9, ESV)

  • Gifted for ministry

As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:” (1 Peter 4:10, ESV)

  • Commanded to minister

It shall not be so among you. But whoever would be great among you must be your servant, and whoever would be first among you must be your slave, even as the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many.” (Matthew 20:26–28, ESV)

  • To be Prepared for ministry

And he gave the apostles, the prophets, the evangelists, the shepherds and teachers, to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ,” (Ephesians 4:11–12, ESV)

  • Needed for ministry

If the whole body were an eye, where would be the sense of hearing? If the whole body were an ear, where would be the sense of smell? But as it is, God arranged the members in the body, each one of them, as he chose. If all were a single member, where would the body be? As it is, there are many parts, yet one body. The eye cannot say to the hand, “I have no need of you,” nor again the head to the feet, “I have no need of you…Now you are the body of Christ and individually members of it.” (1 Corinthians 12:17–21, 27, ESV)

  • Accountable for ministry

For no one can lay a foundation other than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ. Now if anyone builds on the foundation with gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, straw— each one’s work will become manifest, for the Day will disclose it, because it will be revealed by fire, and the fire will test what sort of work each one has done.” (1 Corinthians 3:11–13, ESV)

Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, knowing that from the Lord you will receive the inheritance as your reward. You are serving the Lord Christ.” (Colossians 3:23–24, ESV)

Who are you?

What are you doing here?

Questions To Consider:

  • Who am I? Am I seeking my identity in the opinion and approval of others or am I grounding my identity in Jesus Christ?
  • What am I doing here? What does God want to do in and through my life?
  • Am I willing to pray that God would show me how and where He wants me to serve Him by serving others in the days ahead?
