What Do You Remember?

Scripture: Revelation 1:4–6

Communion Sunday

What Do You Remember?

Revelation 1:4-6

Too often we tend to forget.  One of the reasons that Jesus instituted the Lord’s Supper was so that we would not forget some central truths to build our lives upon.

Reflect Upon Five Important Truths

  1. God is In Control (4-5)
  1. God Loves Us (5b)

but God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.” (Romans 5:8)

See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are.” (1 John 3:1)

In this the love of God was made manifest among us, that God sent his only Son into the world, so that we might live through him. In this is love, not that we have loved God but that he loved us and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.” (1 John 4:9–10)

  1. Our Sins Have Been Forgiven (5b)

Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.”  (Hebrews 9:22)

knowing that you were ransomed from the futile ways inherited from your forefathers, not with perishable things such as silver or gold, but with the precious blood of Christ, like that of a lamb without blemish or spot.” (1 Peter 1:18–19)

  1. We Are Called To Serve Him (6a)

how much more will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without blemish to God, purify our conscience from dead works to serve the living God.” (Hebrews 9:14)

For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them.” (Ephesians 2:10)

  1. We Must Live For His Glory (6b)

So, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God.” (1 Corinthians 10:31)

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

Making It Personal:

  • Have you personally experienced the forgiveness and reconciliation with God only made possible through Jesus Christ? Are you genuinely a child of God through responding to His grace through repentance and faith?
  • Reflect on these 5 truths as we prepare for the Lord’s Supper and throughout the week ahead.
  • Who can you share these truths with?
