God Shed His Grace on Me

Pastor: Shannon Ford Scripture: Titus 2:11–14

God Shed His Grace on Me

Titus 2:11-14

“Grace is the face God puts on when He looks at my failures, my faults, and my flaws.”  (James Merritt)

1) Grace Saves us from Sin’s Penalty (Titus 2:11)

For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people…

  • Presented Salvation

The grace of God is more than a divine attribute; it is a divine Person, Jesus Christ.  Jesus Christ not only was God incarnate but was grace incarnate.

He has saved us and called us to a holy life—not because of anything we have done but because of his own purpose and grace. This grace was given us in Christ Jesus before the beginning of time, but it has now been revealed through the appearing of our Savior, Christ Jesus, who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel.   (2 Timothy 1:9-10 NIV 1984)

  • Provided Salvation

Nobody else has ever died for your sins, nor has anyone else’s payment been accepted for your sins.

But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will. (Acts 15:11)

2) Grace Strengthens us against Sin’s Power (Titus 2:12)

Training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age…

  • Grace trains us to renounce sin

Salvation is not only a change in position (set free from the slavery of sin), but it is also a change in attitude, appetite, ambition, and actions.

But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ.        (Philippians 3:8-9)

  • Grace trains us to refuse self

Grace does not grant permission to live in the flesh; it supplies power to live in the Spirit.   John MacArthur

Six-C Method (David Jeremiah)

  1. Determine to bring every thought and habit under captivity to Christ.
  2. Confess it to God in a prayer of repentance.
  3. Claim the victory from God based on His great and precious promises.
  4. Confide this matter to a friend who will serve as your accountability partner.
  5. Continue, no matter what. Don’t give in or give up, even if you have failures along the way.
  6. God’s grace is stronger that your weakness, and His blood not only forgives you; it cleanses from all sin.
  • Grace trains us to reveal sacredness

By his divine grace, Jesus Christ completely reprograms our life computers.  He deletes the previous files and programs filled with malware and viruses and replaces with His own divine truth and righteousness.

3) Grace will Separate us from Sin’s Presence
     (Titus 2:13)

Waiting for our blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ…

  • We know what to look for: His coming
  • We know who to look for: Our Savior

4) Grace Sends us away from Sin’s Possession
     (Titus 2:14)

Who gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for himself a people for his own possession who are zealous for good works.

  • Jesus paid for us
  • Jesus purifies us

For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God. (2 Corinthians 5:21)

  • Jesus prepares us

For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared beforehand, that we should walk in them. (Ephesians 2:8-10)

The Great Exchange

  • For your sin, God is willing to give you His salvation.
  • For your failures, God is willing to give you His forgiveness.
  • For your guilt, God is willing to give you His grace.

Making It Personal:

  • How would you define grace? How does grace define you?
  • As we look back at the life and death and resurrection of Christ as portrayed in the gospel accounts, how is the grace of God made more concrete and real for us?
  • How is grace a different kind of teacher (instructor) for us than the Law? What do we learn from grace as it tutors us?
  • How can we increase the level of expectation of our looking for the blessed hope?
  • Who can I share these truths with?
