Crazy Busy

Monday Morning Faith

Crazy Busy

Luke 10:38-42

“I wanted to figure out why I was so busy, but I couldn't find the time to do it.” Todd Stocker

Am I Driven by fear or Directed by God?

Fears That Can Drive Us

  • I won’t Have Enough
  • I won’t Be Successful
  • I won’t Be Accepted
  • I will Fall Behind
  • I will Miss Out
  • Sometimes behind the fear is Pride

A Principle To Understand

O Lord, make me know my end and what is the measure of my days; let me know how fleeting I am!” (Psalm 39:4)

So teach us to number our days that we may get a heart of wisdom.” (Psalm 90:12)

Realizing my time is Limited helps me to Limit what I choose to do with my time!

Counting my days will help me to make my days Count

“The person who never sets priorities is the person who does not believe in his own finitude.”  Kevin DeYoung

A Priority To Live

  • Martha is not Bad, she is distracted, anxious and troubled
  • Mary is not Lazy or Uncaring, she has in this moment chosen the better way
  • Jesus is not saying, Don’t Work, he is saying don’t Start There
  • The question is not, “What needs to be done?” The question is, “What does He Want Me To Do?”

Busyness does not necessarily equal importance or Productivity

A busy life can be a Barren life

The barrier to a meaningful life is often not a lack of commitment, but Overcommitment

Learn to say “No” to many small things so that you can say “Yes” to a few big things

“Whenever you say yes to anything, there is less of you for something else.   Make sure your yes is worth the less.” Louie Giglio

Promises To Encourage You

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.” (Matthew 6:33)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make straight your paths.” (Proverbs 3:5–6)

A Place To Begin

Start at the Feet of Jesus

Keep

Improve (Modify, Increase or Decrease)

Start

Stop

Challenge: Spend some time at the feet of Jesus and allow Him to guide you through the K.I.S.S. exercise.  Take it to the next level and invite a spouse, family member, friend or small group to review this exercise with you.

The Heart of The Matter

In many cases, the busyness of our schedules is just a reflection of the busyness of Our Hearts

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”” (Matthew 11:28–30)

Making It Personal:

  • What fears may be driving some of my busyness?
  • How can I more consistently remind myself that my time is limited so that I will limit what I choose to do with my time?
  • When will I prioritize time to sit at the feet of Jesus? What will that look like on a daily basis?  What will it look like as a weekly rhythm?
  • When will I prioritize time to sit with Jesus and go through the K.I.S.S. exercise? Who can I invite to share this exercise with me to have others speak into my busyness?
  • What might the busyness of my schedule be telling me about the busyness of my heart?
  • Who can I share these truths with?
