God’s Perfect Christmas Gift

Mighty God:

Someone To Rescue Me

Isaiah 9:6-7

What do you think is the number one most popular religion in America?

Three Basic Truths

  1. Every person is contaminated by sin and is in need of Rescue

Therefore, just as sin entered the world through one man, and death through sin, and in this way death came to all men, because all sinned—” (Romans 5:12)

for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God,” (Romans 3:23)

For the wages of sin is death, but the gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.” (Romans 6:23)

As for you, you were dead in your transgressions and sins, in which you used to live when you followed the ways of this world and of the ruler of the kingdom of the air, the spirit who is now at work in those who are disobedient. All of us also lived among them at one time, gratifying the cravings of our sinful nature and following its desires and thoughts. Like the rest, we were by nature objects of wrath. ” (Ephesians 2:1–3)

remember that at that time you were separate from Christ, excluded from citizenship in Israel and foreigners to the covenants of the promise, without hope and without God in the world.” (Ephesians 2:12)

For in the days before the flood, people were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, up to the day Noah entered the ark; and they knew nothing about what would happen until the flood came and took them all away. That is how it will be at the coming of the Son of Man.” (Matthew 24:38–39)

  1. Jesus Christ is the Mighty God who came to rescue us

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel”—which means, “God with us.” (Matthew 1:20–23)

2 Names of Jesus:

  • Jesus: From the Hebrew Joshua means “Yahweh saves” or “salvation is from Yahweh”
  • Immanuel: “God with us”

3 Distinctions between Christianity and every other religion in the world:

  • Jesus alone claimed to be God (see John 5:18, 8:58, 10:30, 14:9)
  • Only Jesus Arose from the grave

We are going up to Jerusalem, and the Son of Man will be betrayed to the chief priests and the teachers of the law. They will condemn him to death and will turn him over to the Gentiles to be mocked and flogged and crucified. On the third day he will be raised to life!” (Matthew 20:18–20)

Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.” (Mark 16:14)

  • Only Jesus offers Salvation through grace not works

For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— not by works, so that no one can boast.” (Ephesians 2:8–9)

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.” (John 3:16)

Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” (John 14:6)

Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to men by which we must be saved.” (Acts 4:12)

  1. We each must choose to Trust Christ for our rescue and salvation or Reject Him

Whoever believes in the Son has eternal life, but whoever rejects the Son will not see life, for God’s wrath remains on him.” (John 3:36)

“The time has come,” he said. “The kingdom of God is near. Repent and believe the good news!”” (Mark 1:15)

What Do I Need To Do To Personally Experience This Rescue?

  • Turn from your sin toward Christ
  • Trust in Jesus Christ as your rescuer and ruler
  • Travel for the rest of your life following Christ and obeying His commands

“Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” (Romans 10:13)

Three Things To Say To Our Mighty God Today:

  • Sorry I have ignored you, rejected you and disobeyed you in my life
  • Thank You for sending Jesus Christ to die for me and to rescue me
  • Please forgive me, change me and take over the running of my life right now and forever

Making It Personal:

  • How are you responding right now to God’s perfect gift of Jesus Christ sent to rescue you?
  • Who can you share these truths with?
