Love Like Jesus Loved

On My Last Nerve

1 Corinthians 13:5 & Mark 6:30-44

Is there anyone who irritates you?

We all live in a fallen world full of fallen people, including people who irritate us, annoy us and make us feel angry.

A Familiar Story

  • A Divine Assignment (Mark 6:7-13, 30)
  • A need for Rest (31)
  • An unexpected Interruption (32-34)
  • A seemingly Reasonable suggestion (36)
  • A surprisingly Unreasonable response (37)
  • The abundant Provision of God (38-44)

Irritability On Display

  1. Who gets irritated? Anyone Can!

We have to learn to see irritation for what it really is, a Failure To Love

  1. When we are likely to get irritated?
  • Tired and Hungry

Physical weakness can sometimes set us up for spiritual danger!

  • Coming off a successful time of Serving The Lord

Some of our strongest temptations come right after we have been busy serving God

When we are weak we can only be strong by the Power of God

  1. How does irritability treat other people? Get Away From Them!

Sometimes we are less concerned with other people’s needs than how those needs are affecting us.

  1. How does irritability respond to God? Exasperation or Anger

Rather than turning to God for help, we exaggerate our problems and get exasperated with God.

Irritability is directly connected to our relationship with God.  Our anger not only hurts other people, but it also hinders our relationship with God.

Love Like Jesus Loved

  1. Love moves Toward Other People (34)
  1. Love Trusts God to provide what is needed (41)

Love finds the strength to serve by trusting in the love, power and grace of God!

  1. Love loves even the Loveless (42-44)

Jesus did not treat the disciples as they treated Him!

  1. Love flows out of my experience of being Loved By God

We love because he first loved us.” (1 John 4:19)

All my irritating sins are covered by the cross of Jesus!

God’s love for me enables me to love someone else with that same kind of love!

Making It Personal:

  • Have you personally experienced the forgiving love of God through repentance and faith in Jesus Christ alone as your Lord and Savior?
  • Who is it that seems to irritate you most consistently? What will it look like to love them like Jesus loves this week?

  • Who might you be irritating? What would it look like to love them like Jesus loves this week?
  • Who can you share these truths with?
