Discovering My God Given Design

February 22, 2015 Speaker: Jeff Bedwell Series: Overflow

Passage: Ephesians 2:10

Discovering My God Given Design
Ephesians 2:10

My life works best when it is aligned with God’s design!

We were designed by God to make a Contribution, not just to consume.

“As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace:” (1 Peter 4:10)

Important Question: How do I know where I can best serve God by serving others?

Discovering My God Given D.E.S.I.G.N.

D - Desire

“For it is God who works in you, both to will and to work for his good pleasure.” (Philippians 2:13)

“Delight yourself in the LORD, and he will give you the desires of your heart.” (Psalm 37:4)

E - Experiences

“And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.” (Romans 8:28)

  • Family
  • Educational
  • Vocational
  • Spiritual
  • Ministry
  • Painful

S – Spiritual Gifts

“Now there are varieties of gifts, but the same Spirit; and there are varieties of service, but the same Lord; and there are varieties of activities, but it is the same God who empowers them all in everyone. To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:4–7)

“All these are empowered by one and the same Spirit, who apportions to each one individually as he wills.” (1 Corinthians 12:11)

I – Individual Style

“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well.” (Psalm 139:13–14)

“But now, O LORD, you are our Father; we are the clay, and you are our potter; we are all the work of your hand.” (Isaiah 64:8)

God loves Variety

There is no Right or Wrong personality or temperament for ministry

G – Growth Phase

“But grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. To him be the glory both now and to the day of eternity. Amen.” (2 Peter 3:18)

“Rather, speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in every way into him who is the head, into Christ, from whom the whole body, joined and held together by every joint with which it is equipped, when each part is working properly, makes the body grow so that it builds itself up in love.” (Ephesians 4:15–16)

N – Natural Abilities

“I have filled him with the Spirit of God, with ability and intelligence, with knowledge and all craftsmanship,” (Exodus 31:3)

“You shall remember the LORD your God, for it is he who gives you power to get wealth,” (Deuteronomy 8:18)

God knows your unique design and God knows the season of life that you are currently in.

We Can Waste Our Life Or Invest It!

“Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.” (1 Corinthians 15:58)

“His master said to him, ‘Well done, good and faithful servant. You have been faithful over a little; I will set you over much. Enter into the joy of your master.’” (Matthew 25:21)
