The Importance of Hearing God's Voice

Pastor: Jeff Bedwell Series: Discerning God's Voice in a World Full of Noise Scripture: Hebrews 1:1–1:2

God has chosen to speak to us!

Nothing is more important than learning to hear and obey God’s voice!

“My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.” (John 10:27)

God Speaks To Reveal

1. His CHARACTER

“When Abram was ninety-nine years old the LORD appeared to Abram and said to him, “I am God Almighty; walk before me, and be blameless,” (Genesis 17:1)

“but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.” (1 Peter 1:15–16)

2. His PURPOSES

“For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.” (Romans 8:29)

“But the Lord said to him, “Go, for he is a chosen instrument of mine to carry my name before the Gentiles and kings and the children of Israel. For I will show him how much he must suffer for the sake of my name.”” (Acts 9:15–16)

3. His WAYS

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, declares the LORD. For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” (Isaiah 55:8–9)

“Make me to know your ways, O LORD; teach me your paths.” (Psalm 25:4)

When God Speaks

  • You will have to believe God is who He says He is;
  • You will have to believe God can do what He says He will do;
  • You will have to adjust your thinking in light of this belief;
  • You will be called upon to obey God, demonstrating your trust in Him;
  • When you obey, God will do His work through you and demonstrate that He is who He says He is;
  • You will know God by experience;
  • You will know He is who He says He is.

Discerning God’s Voice Enables Me To

  1. GROW my personal relationship with God
  2. BECOME the person God wants me to be
  3. FULFILL the purposes God has for my life
  4. MAXIMIZE my life’s impact on the lives of others

“My quiet time is not for a devotional thought, but for a deeper relationship with my Heavenly Father. It alerts me to what God wants to do in my life the rest of the day.” Henry Blackaby
Tuning Into the Voice of God

  1.  Pick up a copy of the book, Prayer for Revival by Dr. Francois Carr, and pray through this
       guide for the 21 days of prayer and fasting (January 11 - 31).
  2. Fast from food for all or at least some of the 21 days of prayer and fasting through a partial
      or normal fast.

“Fasting is the abstinence from food with a spiritual goal in mind. It is when I pursue the God of Heaven to do something powerful and supernatural in and through my life.” Ronnie Floyd

Types of Fast:

  • Normal – No intake of food for a period of time, there may be intake of liquids
  • Partial – Diet is limited, though some food is allowed (Example of this is a Daniel Fast)

Click HERE for more resources and ideas for the Daniel Fast.

    3.  Reduce by half your intake of non-work related media for the 21 days of prayer and fasting
         and give that extra time to passionately seeking the face of God and aligning your will and
         every aspect of your life with God’s purposes and plans.
    4.  Join with others in times of praying together in groups, seeking God together as we
         begin the New Year.

Save The Date ~ Sunday, February 8th, at 6:00 p.m.
We will come together for a special time of corporate prayer as a church family!
