Sometimes God asks us to do things that don’t make sense to us - we don’t understand why.

In those moments we will decide: will we do it Our Way or God’s Way?

Lessons in Obedience

1. Our Problems are often God’s Opportunities (8)

Every problem is an opportunity to prove God's power

2. Obedience may require something that seems
unreasonable or impractical (9-12)

Examples: Noah, Joshua, Peter and Philip (Acts 8)

3. Failure to obey may Cost us what we most desire.

“And everyone who hears these words of mine and does not do them will be like a foolish man who built his house on the sand. And the rain fell, and the floods came, and the winds blew and beat against that house, and it fell, and great was the fall of it.” (Matthew 7:26–27)

4. Good Counsel encourages obedience (13)

“The thoughts of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful.” (Proverbs 12:5)

5. Obedience on our part opens the door to receive God’s Best (14)

Obedience can be defined as doing what God says, when God says it, how God says to do it and trusting God with the rest.

“The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.” (John 10:10)

“But he said, “Blessed rather are those who hear the word of God and keep it!” (Luke 11:28)

Gehazi: Choosing Our Way

  • He Thought (20)
  • He Pursued (21)
  • He Lied (22-25)
  • He experienced the Consequences of his choices (26-27)

Consequences are not always immediate, but they are inevitable

Two men – different decisions:

  • One looked back with Relief
  • One looked back with Regret

What is God asking you to do today?
How are you going to respond?

Making It Personal

Where is God asking me to take a step of radical obedience that may not make total sense to me?

What thoughts or fears might be preventing me from responding in trusting obedience?

What might I lose by disobeying God in this area?

What might I gain if I do it God’s way?

How am I going to respond to what God is asking me to do?
