A Different Way to Live

Pastor: Jeff Bedwell Series: reFRESH: Familiar Verses, Fresh Insight Scripture: Galatians 2:20

A Different Way to Live
Galatians 2:20

Two Vitally Important Understandings:

  • A Proper Understanding Of God
  • A Proper Understanding Of Ourselves

The Truest Thing about You Is What God Says about You!

“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come.” (2 Corinthians 5:17, ESV)

“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” (Galatians 2:20, ESV)

Our identity in Christ is not something we Earn, it is something we Have - it is a gift of God’s grace

We will have to Grow into it, but it is ours if we are in Jesus Christ

Understanding What Christ Has Done For Us:

  1. He took something from me: My Old Life
  2. He put something in me: My New Life
  3. He gave something for me: His Own Life

Truths about Our Identity in Christ

1. We Have A New Position

“But God, being rich in mercy, because of the great love with which he loved us, even when we were dead in our trespasses, made us alive together with Christ—by grace you have been saved—” (Ephesians 2:4–5, ESV)

  • We were dead in Sin
  • Now we are alive in Christ

2. We Have A New Potential

“But thanks be to God, that you who were once slaves of sin have become obedient from the heart to the standard of teaching to which you were committed, and, having been set free from sin, have become slaves of righteousness.” (Romans 6:17–18, ESV)

  • Though sin does not Reign in us, it nevertheless Remains in us
  • Sin is Dethroned, but not yet totally Destroyed

“No, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him who loved us.” (Romans 8:37, ESV)

“I can do all things through him who strengthens me.”
(Philippians 4:13, ESV)

3. We Have A New Priority

“So whether we are at home or away, we make it our aim to please him.” (2 Corinthians 5:9, ESV)

“All this is from God, who through Christ reconciled us to himself and gave us the ministry of reconciliation; that is, in Christ God was reconciling the world to himself, not counting their trespasses against them, and entrusting to us the message of reconciliation. Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God.” (2 Corinthians 5:18–20, ESV)

What Do I Do Now?

  • Invite Christ to live His life in and through you
  • Absorb what God says about your new identity in Jesus Christ
  • Live according to God’s truth and your new identity in Jesus Christ
  • Experience the supernatural benefits of Christ living in and through you
